Fed: Vet warns of dangers of improper roo relocation

A wildlife expert says if 500 kangaroos are relocated from a defence property in Canberra
.. half of them could die.

Contractors are getting ready to cull the roos after the ACT government rejected a
plan to move them .. but the Department of Defence wants to have a trial run on relocating
some of them first.

Dr JON HANGER .. a senior vet with Australia Zoo in Queensland .. says if the roos
aren't tranquilised properly the death rate could be 50 per cent.

He's told ABC radio there are substantial risks .. and it could cost up to two thousand
dollars to move each roo .. but if it's done properly it's a humane approach.
